As someone who has spent my career in ambulatory surgery centers, I know firsthand how complex this environment can be. ASCs are expected to deliver exceptional patient care, remain compliant, support physicians, engage staff, and stay financially strong, often all at the same time and with very little margin for error. That reality is exactly why I believe operational assessments are not optional. They are essential.

At Custom Surgical Partners (CSP), we approach operational assessments differently because we understand what it feels like to sit in the administrator or CEO seat. Leaders are not looking for a report that sits on a shelf. They want clarity and insight they can act on. When an assessment is done well, it provides a clear picture of how the surgery center is truly functioning, not just what policies say, but how operations unfold day to day. It highlights what is working well and shines a light on risks that can quietly erode performance, efficiencies and the bottom line if left unaddressed.

One of the reasons clients trust CSP is because our team has lived this work. We have built, led, and supported ASCs across the country. We understand regulatory pressure, staffing challenges, physician dynamics, and financial realities. That experience allows us to see issues quickly and offer recommendations that are practical, realistic, and aligned with each center’s culture and goals. There is no one-size-fits-all solution in ambulatory surgery, which is why our assessments are always customized to the specialty mix, maturity, and strategic direction of each organization.

Compliance is often one of the greatest stressors for ASC leaders, and understandably so. Our assessments help identify gaps early and strengthen systems, so compliance becomes part of daily operations rather than a last-minute scramble before a survey. At the same time, we look closely at operational efficiency, because small changes in scheduling, staffing, supply utilization, or revenue cycle workflows can have a meaningful impact on both margins and team morale.

Most importantly, we believe operational assessments should empower people, not overwhelm them. Education, mentorship, and collaboration are central to how we work. We partner with leadership teams and staff to ensure recommendations are clearly understood and achievable, supporting sustainable improvement rather than short-term fixes. We take it a step further, by also providing the tools that will be needed to implement and achieve these recommendations.

As the ASC industry continues to grow and evolve, strong operations will separate organizations that thrive from those that struggle. My goal, and the goal of Custom Surgical Partners, is to help ASC leaders build resilient, high-performing organizations that are prepared for what comes next. That is why I believe an operational assessment is one of the most valuable investments an ASC can make.
